The following four essays were written in conjunction with classes on the Bodhisattva Precepts (ethical guidelines):

Bodhisattva Training - This essay explores Bodhisattva practice and the Precepts.

Taking Refuge - This essay explores the act of taking refuge in the context of the Zen koan "The The World Honored One Points to the Ground."

The Sangha Jewel - This essay describes the essential aspect of community in spiritual practice.

The Third Pure Precept - This essay focuses on the central tenet of Bodhisattva practice: “What does it mean to work for the benefit of all beings?”

 

These five essays investigate the five major precepts common to all schools of Buddhism: Not Killing, Not Stealing, Not Misusing SexualityNot Lying, and Not Intoxicating.
