Ongoing Wednesday Evening Group in San Francisco

This Wednesday evening group meets from 7-9pm every Wednesday evening at the Unitarian Universalist Church, 1187 Franklin Street (between Geary and O'Farrell). We meet in the Fireside Room. The group begins with guided meditation, followed by chanting, a dharma talk and discussion. The aim of the teaching is to introduce fundamental Buddhist teachings and bring them alive, emphasizing integration into the fabric of daily life and practice.

All are welcome.

Buddhist teachings are considered priceless; in that spirit, the group will be offered on the traditional basis of dana, or generosity. There is no set fee. All who attend are invited to contribute in appreciation of the teachings and in support of the teachers.

Walking in Their Footsteps: the Lives of the Buddha and Yasodhara

This retreat will follow the archetypal heroine/hero's journey lived by the Buddha and his wife, Yasodhara, as it relates to our contemporary life. It will be a traditional Vipassana retreat, alternating periods of silent sitting and walking, with meditation instruction, dharma talks and meetings with the teachers. Each day will include teachings from the lives of Yasodhara and the Buddha, and contemplations on how their stories can serve to guide our own spiritual path. Ritual space marking the opening and closing of the retreat will include reflection and creative expression, and will initiate our entry into the universal journey of human awakening

Being Dharma

Ajahn Chah encouraged the study, practice, understanding and realization of the Dharma in order to 'Be the Dharma'. What does this mean and what are the implications for our life and actualizing our realization in the world?

This retreat will explore Being Dharma as a graduated unfolding reality and as an ever present authenticity. We will contemplate the four foundations of mindfulness experientially as we sit, walk, eat and in all activities. The structure of the retreat includes group and individual meetings with the teachers, daily meditation instructions and dharma talks. Each day will also include devotional practices that explore the Bodhisattva Heart.

Featuring teachers: Pam Weiss, Eugene Cash, Kitissaro and Thanissara.

This retreat will focus on cultivating a quality of conscious presence that embraces our heart, mind and body with acceptance and wisdom. Insight meditation practice will be supported by instructions, lovingkindness meditation and regular meetings with the teachers. The retreat is suitable for both beginners and experienced meditators.
